A painting by Jeff Kruse anchors the space and provides a hint of the citrusy color scheme in the rest of the house. We also love the texture added by the country-style bench. A bright-colored rug is always a welcoming touch in a foyer. Here, it’s joined by a funky improvised bench with an appealing display of the homeowners’ collections. The top portion of a wall between the staircase and this rear foyer was removed to improve the home’s flow. Graphic splashes of color create movement in the space. A sculptural chair from B&B Italia breaks the squared-off lines of the Cassina sectional in the family room of the same home; pops of orange and red enliven the look. A split-face limestone tile fireplace lends texture to the sleeker features of this room, designed by Jessica Lagrange, including a floating stainless steel shelf and a Christian Liaigre sofa and armchairs.

Next to Moss’s headboard, a vintage oil painting hangs on top of a cascade of photos. ” Downstairs is a mostly white dining room. “People and food provide all the color I need,” he says. In the dining room, an antique English pub lantern hangs over a chair with cushions made from old grain sacks and a table salvaged from a monastery.
